Tony's Tavern holds on for 10-9 victory over Pbr
Apr 6,  2014

Tony's Tavern returned to the field on Sunday after 2 weeks off ready to face a tough Pbr team.  Both teams watched the thunderstorms in the area and looked for a break in the weather to play a quality game of lax.

Tony's took the early lead 5-2 going into the 2nd quarter.  Pbr would rally their offense and trail 6-4 at halftime.  Both teams would fight through the mud in the 2nd half for tough groundballs and opportunties.  Tony's would maintain their 2 goal advantage at 8-6 going into the final frame.

Pbr put together a good run on offense and tied the game up 9-9 with less than 5 minutes to go.  Tony's would take advantage of a unsettled opportunity and Guterman would find Jee for the game winning goal to make it 10-9.  Pbr took a time out with under 2 minutes left to go in the game, but Tony's would come together on Defense led by Blahut between the pipes making some great saves and getting some help from Daniels, Prochaska, Moss, Stowe, Horine and Rumsey that worked as a great unit to preserve the win.

The midfield played tough between the boxes all day with Glass, Glass Jr., Shainsky, Guterman, Horine, Adams, and Bull playing tough defense and moving the ball on offense.  Moss had a great day at the face-off X grinding out a lot of possessions.  Blahut led the defense with longpoles Daniels, Prochaska and Stowe doing the work to keep the attackmen working for shots.  Fullerton, Jee, and Rumsey combined for 8 goals and 4 assists to finish transition opportunties on the attack end.

Thanks to the fans that came to support the team in the rain.  Tony's looks to a double header weekend with games against Corpus Christi & Austin lacrosse Club next weekend.

Tony's Tavern comes up with rainy day win over Htown
Mar 2, 2014

Tony's Tavern returned from Mardi Gras tournament and took on a good squad in Htown lacrosse.  Both teams agreed to fight through the elements and get a good Sunday game of lax on the books.

Tony's took the early lead 3-0 on goals from Clagett, Fullerton and Jee.  Htown would gain some momentum after that and put some goals together.  Tony's was leading 7-4 going into half.  Tony's would tighten up on defense and get the transition game offense going outscoring Htown 10-3 in the 2nd half of play.  Fullerton, Jee and Shainsky all had big days tallying 3 or more goals each.  Nate Daniels was a clearing machine and contributed on many of the fast break goals during the game.

The middies and defense forced Htown into tough shots all day led by Blahut and Markeloff between the pipes with long poles: Daniels, Bauer, Bumby, Prochaska, and Smith forcing poor shots all day.  Clagett and Moss took care of business on the face-off X either gaining possession or tying it up.  Shainsky, Glass, Glass Jr., Guterman, Rumsey, McGraw were the workhorses between the boxes on offense and defense.

Thanks to the fans that came to support the team in the rain.  Thanks to Htown for braving the weather to make the game and we look forward to another match-up later this spring.  The team will turn around and play next Sunday against Adrenaline.
